The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in IIorin yesterday arrested a teenager who was almost beaten to death by irate residents for allegedly kidnapping and attempting to rape a young girl in his neighbourhood.
The suspect was said to be returning from a religious programme when he saw three girls playing on the street and abducted one of the girls, according to him with the intention of raping her, fortunately he was caught by residents who descended on him and beat the hell out of him before he was rescued by police officers.
Mother of the abducted girl Mrs Fatima Ibrahim, said she was having her bath when some children ran in to tell her what had happened. She said neighbours joined her in the search for her daughter, the spokesman for the NSCDC command, Alhaji Kadiri Ibrahim said the suspect will be handed over to the police for prosecution.
