PRIMMY'S CORNER-MY DUBLIN ANKARA FESTIVAL EXPERIENCE 2012

I am not witch hunting anybody but i am a straight forward girl who says things the way she sees it, I don't normally go out on Fridays because of church commitments, I do not attend event much only when I am in Nigeria.  Unfortunately for me my friend and fellow blogger Vickie Roberts of Vicky Robert hospitality coaxed me into going for the Ankara Festival organised by Redwood  Entertainments.  After agreeing to go I convinced my friend Lilian to come along with me thinking we were going to have a blast (In my head) she in turn convinced another friend of ours Rose to come along with us.  We got there really early because it was stated on the poster that if you get there before 11pm you will pay 10 euros anything after 11pm you would pay 15 euros.   On getting there we were told in their  words "We are not ready yet"  so we hung around saying how lucky we were to be among the first set of guest .
When the gates finally opened, I cat-walked majestically like a peacock in my high heeled shoes to the gate only to be slapped on the face with a 15 euros ticket, I flipped (with a look that says no you didn't mean to do that did you?) Whatttttt are they freaking kidding me? after telling me its 10 euros on the poster/fliers you want me to pay 15 euros I refused and they talked and talked  telling me  they were acting on instructions  given to them by the organizers so I explained to them that it wasn't about the money but the deception behind it, saying an Irish promoter would never do that to people.  After my long ranting and sermon I eventually paid the 15 euros because they weren't bulging and I had made up my mind to have fun and 5 euros extra wasn't going to stop primrose  (me for those of you who don't know my name) and my friends from getting our groove on.  For more click on read more

When we got inside I want straight to the VIP section to sit down with my friends and noticed the tables were empty hmmmm I thought VIP tables were suppose to have drinks (even the cheapest of wine) and refreshment but all I saw was a jug of water and six tom-tom looking sweets (yes I counted).  I was still upset deep down about the whole deception thingy and trust your girl, I wouldn't let it pass without letting the chief organizer  know how I felt  he apologized and even promised my friend a bottle of wine we still dey wait for the wine deception raised to the power two(Q2).
Finally the show began, teenagers everywhere I was like a square peg in a round hole even though they were a few adults in the event.  I immediately thought of my son Tevin if only  I had magic fingers I would have snapped it and abrakadabra he will appear to take my place.  Anyways the show started with a DJ who kept paraphrasing every song he played, it was as if somebody was pounding my head, this went on for sometime you can imagine how i felt.  The first act of the night was introduced on stage honestly he wasn't doing it for me I was glued to my sit so was everybody in the hall, the second act of the night was a Malawian singer,  on a scale of one to ten I will give him a six because he was able to move the upper part of my body Lol.  After his performance I went outside to see if I can get some lovely photo for my blog, shout out to my friend the best African photographer in Dublin Oscar Blake for helping me out, It was strange that in an event like the Ankara Festival there was no Banner/backdrop of the event for people to take photos, if not for Vicky Robert hospitality who came along with her banner most of our photographs would have looked like what we took in a hotel room.  I went back in to sit down with my friends and the same DJ was on stage again (crap) I magically blocked my ears before them go call ambulance for me just then I saw a DJ who is on my Facebook friend list whom I have always found intriguing because of his mask DJ Ahmed I was so excited to take his photo and as usual he had his mask on.
He was called on stage to do his thing when he started I  went hallelujah in my Beyonce voice (in my head) he saved the day thank God for mercies, on a scale of one to ten I will give him a hundred because I stood up and danced my boredom away (somebody please tell him he just got a new fan) when he finished doing his thing I went out for more photos.  I came back and there was a fashion show going on, I didn't understand the essence of the fashion show because the models and their outfits had being frolicking in front of us for like two hours okay I get it (my thoughts) they were begged to come on stage to do a "fashion show" during the fashion show the artist that was performing for the models did more of caressing his "down below" rather than singing I almost passed out was he trying to seduce us? it was indeed music/crotch meets fashion on the run way, some of these Artist have to work on their stage performance.  hmmmmm *signs* SMH the main reason a lot of people came out was DJ Jimmy Jatt, DJ JamJam and Femi BenTv but they were no  where to be found or should I say DJ JamJam and Femi BenTv were found in the hotel lobby as for DJ Jimmy Jatt I guess he was on the plane coming to Dublin ha ha ha ha.  I was so bored and contemplating whether to leave the event because at this stage my friends were really angry with me for making them come out to waste their time, when "Gbosa" head butt them no tell person before I carry my clutch bag, this time I did not cat-walk ooh na Usain Bolt I take commot for there.
My advice to promoters is this

  • Let your black be black
  • If an artist is not coming don't put them on you bill or poster
  • Always use a professional Hospitality outfit
  • Get a banner/backdrop for photos it's a form of publicity
  • keep to time
  • Never delay in bringing you main act on stage at the right time knowing fully well that clubs in Ireland close at half 2
  • Don't waste time on irrelevant activities

I may not be a professional in this field this is simple common sense I am only giving my 2 cents finally on a scale of one to ten I will give the show a two
till next time

  5. WoW! Am Loving this! Last year i was coaxed by the organizer to come, n it was just the same even worst! Tacky is the word! A lot of interesting, professional media advert is put forward which i applaud sincerely but then????what happen to the actualization of the event? Nah....tacky, tacky, tacky! The poor teenagers, youths n some adult who never had a childhood or youthful classy fun, who doesn't have an idea of real classy parties where they can have fun without looking like a low class cheap freaks! don't know better than to just jump n roll along! This is the 3rd year ladies who want to support the "so called ankara festival" n have fun r disappointed! 2010,2011 n 2012! I had my share 2011 though i wasn't surprise i had to humble myself to honour a plea...

  6. You know? This guys just keep organizing parties just like clubbing which is even better at least you know what to expect. They look for a catchy phrase which is not bad but never live up to it! "Ankara Festival" Definitely they don't have a clue what that mean, what it represent n how it should presented! Phew!

It's high time someone does a very classy, honest true event which would represent African as clean, elegant, intelligent, broad, educated and versatile! Would get in touch Prim!

  12. All you need to do is look around you here in Ireland......look at pictures and events....majority of the Nigerian woman's image here is just so so sad and tacky! From the clownish makeup to the ill fitting clothes (mind you I did not say outfits).
I am yet to see a show or event organised here by Nigerians done with class and meaning. The Miss Nigeria shows and other so called shows are so time wasting, less than medicore, tacky, embarasssing...the list is endless.
You cannot be in this part of the world and represent or give out CRAP!!!

  13. While I agree with most of the comments I also commend the efforts of these people that have stepped forward to ''put'' these events together. Note, I used ''put'' not ''organise''..lol. Really, some of us that criticize them really need to step forward and help make things better.

@ Straighttalk...I agree 100%, my heart bleeds when I see those pictures...but we should consider stepping out there not to support the ''shows of shame'' but to help influence things to make it classy, glamorous and fabulous.
