The Lagos State Ministry of Health today July 24th announced that Patrick Sawyer a Liberian in his 40s who was being tested for the deadly Ebola virus in Lagos has died. The man who was in Nigeria for a conference last Sunday fall ill after his arrival in the Nigerian.
A Liberian government official, speaking on condition of anonymity said the news of Sawyer's death was relayed to Liberia by the Nigerian embassy, early Friday morning.
Mr Sawyer's death is the first recorded case of one of the world's deadliest diseases in Nigeria.
