"IF THEY NOT PAYING SORRY AM NOT COMING" - YOUNG BROSS.

"IF THEY NOT PAYING SORRY AM NOT COMING. NO FREE SHOWS HERE PLEASE, ITS WRITTEN WITH CAPITAL LETTERS PERIOD" - Young Bross

Lying on my sick bed and going through Facebook on my BB I came across this post by Dublin based Nigerian artist Young Bross and the first thing that came to my head was about time. I may not attend a lot of events or write much about entertainment apart from the occational interviews, but trust me I know everything that goes on in the entertainment scene here in Dublin from video shots to who is dating who to petty fights on FB, the one that bugs me most is performing for free seriously? Anyways seeing the post brought a smile to my face, I am so happy that finally someone is standing up for what he feels, I feel and I know you Ireland based Nigeria artist know and feel is wrong, my question is why? I know a lot of you don’t like it and always complain behind closed doors because you are scared that if you say anything and don’t perform for free that promoters will blacklist you and make sure you never see any stage again   ohhhhh please nobody I repeat nobody has your destiny in their hand and so cannot change or stop you from getting to your destination, my dears please about time you take a stand and give yourself, your talent

and your craft a little bit of respect and  value, that way the promoters and your fans will take you seriously, so as far as I am concerned this idea of free this free that has to stop I am not saying you can’t do stuff for free but before you do that ask yourselves why am I doing it for free? Is it for charity (a good course) or because the person involved is my friend, am I in this business for the fun of it or to entertain and make money with your God given talent c
Promoter as far as I am concerned are exploiting and taking advantage of you they bring in Nigerian music stars spend so much making sure they are comfortable, accord them all the respects and benefits that come with being a star and they treat you like a lesser star which you know deep down you are not. My dears you are stars and celebrities in our eyes and here in Dublin so it is time you take control of your territory show us you value yourself and you craft and put a price on you talent no matter how little and we will take you seriously don’t be scared that Oga promoter won’t call you again for an event (bone them).
My dearies organise a little listening party and concert and we will all come out to support you (my 2cent) and feel free to comment under anonymous cos I know a lot of you wouldn’t want to comment because of you oga on the top and  as for me primmy I say warraever *winks*

  3. Like all starters we garner goodwill by self promotion thro free shows and all. With time u have to put ya feet down and weight your options. That's when you start thinking like a bizman. As intoned, everyone with his destiny but no matter what their will be some clients u cannot refuse for free.

  6. This is so on point! The truth is, we artists are not worth fighting for. Reason is we have alot of ass lickers in this game that even if we take a stand not to perform for free, these so called suckers will still go back and perform for free! I remember vickie robert contacted a blogger sometime ago to blog about this same issue...it's still a pity things have not changed! As for me, i am no longer performing for free!!

  7. This is spot on, its about time promoters value artists, including djs that are promoters too. Even upcoming artist should be valued and given some form of token. Shout out to the bloggers, artist, djs promoting afrobeat and entertainment at a whole. I hope this issue will soon be a past issue and things begin to change for the good.
