TWO CHORISTERS CUT YOUNGER COLLEAGUE WITH BLADE ON THE FACE OVER CHURCH CHOIR MASTER
On March 17, 2013, two women – Temitope Abigeal and Temitope Remi, assaulted Hannah Okurabe (pictured above) with razor blades, slashing her cheek, eyelid, left ear and the back of her neck.
According to reports, Abigeal (26) and Remi (28), both choristers at a Cherubim and Seraphim church at Progressive Road, Ebute Meta, Lagos had gotten into a fight earlier with Hannah (18) over their church’s choirmaster, Joseph Unuigbe…a married man with two kids. Joseph’s wife, Folashade is also a member of the same church.
Apparently, the ‘razor’ fight was the second round of the fight over another woman’s husband. Hannah is currently on admission at Lagos Island General Hospital.
Abigeal and Remi have been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ebute Meta on a three count of conspiracy, assault and grievous harm. The charge read:
“That you Temitope Abigeal and Temitope Remi at about 18.30 hours at Abule Nla junction, Apapa Road, Ebute Meta West, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit assault and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 409 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.
That you, Temitope Abigeal and Temitope Remi in the aforementioned magisterial district did unlawfully use a razor blade to cut one Okurabe Hannah on her cheek, eyelid, left ear and back of her neck which caused her grievous harm and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 243 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.”
The defendants pleaded “not guilty” to the charges. Their counsel, identified simply as Mr. Chukwudi, made a bail application, but the prosecutor, Mr. Ishola Samuel, objected to the bail application, saying the defendants were likely to abscond.
The Magistrate, Mrs. M. O. Tanimola, however ruled that the charge was a bailable offence. She granted the two defendants bail, in the sum of N200,000 ($3,350) each in like sum. The defendants were also to produce two responsible sureties who are gainfully employed and with evidence of tax payments to the state government in the last three years, with verified residential addressed.
The case was adjourned for April 17 2013. The suspects are said to be currently remanded at the Kirikiri Minimum Prison.
