JTF TAKES OVER BOKO HARAM’S COMMAND & CONTROL CENTER

The Military Joint Task Force (JTF) claimed, yesterday, that it had taken over Boko Haram's command centre in Kano, an action that has further dealt a massive blow on the capability of the sect.
Two members of the sect had been captured and killed in the early hours of yesterday after a gun battle with the military and officers of the State Security Services (SSS). One of those captured was said to be Abu Qada, its spokesman.
The JTF in a statement said: "Following further operation in the suspects' heavily wired IED hideout, the following items were recovered: Two AK 47 rifles, two Pump Action Rifles, one Berretta Rifle, one Smoke Discharger, 433 rounds of 7.62 NATO ammunition, 80 rounds of 7.62 special ammunition, 2 AK 47 magazines, 36 prepared IEDs, 13 Laptops, two motorcycles, four Printers, one photocopier, one 33 slots Zenith Disc writer, one TG 3900Ez Generator set, Religious Books, large quantity of CD plates, two decoders, two Satellite dish, one 21" Television set, one DVD player, 2 Bags of Urea fertiliser, one Elite dry cell 12v battery, one blue gate UPS, ostabilizer, 10 Hand held Motorola radios and 5 Battery chargers. "This latest encounter with the terrorist group has foiled its plan to wreck havoc on the good people of Kano state. It has equally further depleted the capacity of the terrorist group to operate. "The JTF would like to use this medium to reiterate its resolve to continue to work assiduously towards the protection of lives and property in the state.
"The relative peace which Kano enjoys today can be attributed to the collective effort and prayers of the good people of Kano State."
The JTF appealed to the general public to continue to volunteer information while assuring them of utmost confidentiality in dealing with such information.
"Residents are therefore enjoined to go about their normal lawful business activity without any fear as security agents are ready and will respond swiftly to any treat to life and property in any part of the state," the JTF added.
In a related development, a retired military officer, Colonel Hussaini Mungulu, has said that for security agencies to fully tame the Boko Haram insurgence in the country, the sponsors of the sect would have to be fished out.
Colonel Mungulu said that security agencies should investigate how the sect got its cache of ammunition and where the members had their military training.
Speaking on a BBC Hausa programme yesterday, Colonel Mungulu said: "These are things that you can't get information on if the members were dead. The security agencies need to learn how to arrest live culprits so that they can get useful information from them.
"You can look at this from two different angles; one is let the JTF confirm if the people arrested were arrested in the course of the clash with the sect. If this was the case, the JTF deserved to be highly recommended for doing a good job. But if they were apprehended at home and killed or arrested then this automatically means we are going to get series of attacks from the sect." he added.
Mungulu said that there had been several stories about the arrest and capture for Nigerians to be convinced by the security agencies, saying the JTF should go beyond the ordinary to convince Nigerians that this time around they had captured the real Abu Qaqa.
